  Offshore Outsourcing and Opinions

Opinions on the subject of offshore outsourcing vary dramatically. Some view the industry in a negative light, while others proclaim the industry holds many benefits for both domestic companies, the foreign countries they contract with, and domestic consumers. Still, others see offshore outsourcing in a more neutral light.

Those who are against the industry claim that offshore outsourcing takes away valuable American jobs. The growing practice of sending American jobs overseas leaves many qualified workers in the United States with cut salaries or no job at all. Certified workers are having a more difficult time finding work as more companies choose to hire qualified workers overseas who will work for less than domestic employees. Some say that the economic benefits for the companies are outweighed by the negative impact on many United States’ workers and the rising unemployment rate.

However, proponents of offshore outsourcing say that the industry is responsible for lowering prices for consumers and for stimulating the economic growth of not only the United States but also formerly underdeveloped countries like India, China, and Japan. Hiring workers overseas means companies can spend less to produce the same products and services as they did before. This keeps the companies price competitive and helps consumers to save money.

Still other people see offshore outsourcing as neither particularly positive or negative. Instead, they see it is a growing part of life that must be accepted in order for the United States to remain competitive economically. Offshore outsourcing, they say, is necessary in helping the United States to produce goods and services that may be able to withstand the rigors of the competitive world market. That the industry may cost some employees their jobs or higher salaries is a fact of life that is neither good nor terrible, they say.

Since offshore outsourcing is increasing in popularity, it is doubtful that any of these opinions will be fading soon. Instead, the controversy will most likely continue to increase. Employees and their employers will have to depend on good communication to keep abreast of the growing trend and its impact on both entities.
