| China and Offshore Outsourcing
Offshore outsourcing is being sent to countries like India, Japan, and even Canada. Another country that should expect an increase in the amount of offshore outsourcing contracts is China. There are several reasons why China is expected to become a popular country of choice for American jobs that are being sent overseas.
China is a member of the World Trade Organization, or WTO. The country has also recently begun to pass laws designed to protect intellectual property and private ownership. These are the first key steps to ensuring an increase in the amount of offshore outsourcing contracts brought to the country. China has also begun to increase its acceptance of both private and public partnerships as well as foreign and domestic partnerships. As China increases its acceptance of building foreign relations, it also increases its popularity as a choice for offshore outsourcing contracts.
Also, as China becomes more liberalized, the middle class of this enormous country has grown. This more affluent middle class has begun to migrate toward city centers and urban areas to seek out better employment opportunities. Because this growing middle class indicates an improving economy, offshore outsourcers will consider contracting with China in greater numbers than before. The country is also recognizing the importance of becoming educated in the technical industry, and because there is such a large population in China, low-cost labor is more readily available.
As the Chinese become aware of the increasing importance of technical education, offshore outsourcers find the country to be an opportune place for contracting. Furthermore, the increasing liberalization of the economy means more availability of the country’s resources to offshore outsourcers. Thus, China offers potential outsourcers an excellent combination of factors—a well educated workforce and a low-wage economy. As the government becomes more friendly to foreign companies, China is increasingly appealing to those seeking to outsource work.
The practice of offshore outsourcing is already present in the country as indicated by the ubiquitous “made in China” label seen on everything from clothing to software. However, the country can expect an increase in the amount of outsourcing contracts it receives through the upcoming years.
